I have collaborated with the bass clarinet player Hans Koch on various musical projects for years. In 2011 we founded a duo that combines bass clarinet and electronics. Hans Koch (bass clarinet, saxophone, electronics) is mainly known as a member of the Hardcore Chambermusic Trio Koch-Schütz-Studer, but also as a soloist as well as for his collaborations with Phil Minton, Fred Frith, Paul Lovens etc. He is always working on his very own vocabulary and sound, which makes him a very unique voice on the actual scene.
Sometimes I’m recording the sound of Koch’s bass clarinet and re-use / recycle it by livesampling-methods. Also used are just a few prerecorded samples of acoustic sources and analog synthesizer. Hans Koch uses several unconventional playing techniques. Deconstruction of the instrument, de-construction/reconstruction of the sound is a main interest in this duo. The music stems from sparse musical material; creating pieces that live on lightness, denseness, fragility and humour.
Concerts in Europe and Japan.

„…Koch/Badrutt don’t play easy pieces of music, far from actually, and intense listening is required, but once you get deeper into this some true beauty unfolds. Strangely wonderful difficult music.“
